DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Nurse Manager, the Vascular Access Consultant is responsible for the functions related to the delivery of patient care, as it relates to the inpatient/outpatient PICC Line patient.
Vascular Access Consultant is responsible and accountable for the quality of nursing practice and the standards of care provided to the patients. Vascular Access Consultants facilitate the delivery of professional specialized nursing care related to the insertion and management of PICC lines and vascular access devices for the comfort, safety and best care of the patient requiring long term intravenous treatment. The Vascular Assess consultant also Assists, and educates the nursing staff providing the day to day care of PICC lines. Provides PICC Line insertion to Adult patients, following standard PICC Line procedures. Assists the Nurse Manager in leading, planning, controlling and evaluating nursing practices and operations as it relates to the PICC Lines. Provides patient care to an assigned group of patients and is considered the clinical expert and resource for the PICC Line specialty. The Vascular Access Consultant incorporates the psychomotor and age appropriate cognitive skills of the patient/family/significant other using clinical knowledge of patient assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation. Serves as a role model, clinical resource and leader to colleagues, staff, patients and students.
Minimum Requirements For Consideration as Vascular Access Specialist.
Currently practicing Registered Nurse with at least three (3) years in actual nursing care to include critical care or emergency room experience.
• IV Team experience preferred
• PICC Insertion Certification to include

Traditional insertion

Modified Seldinger Technique

Ultrasound
• Active California Registered Nurse
• Currently practicing and performing PICC insertions
• Knowledge of current INS standards & CDC Guidelines; CRNI

certification desirable; Member of AVA.
• Knowledge of a variety of catheters and accessories on the market
• Familiarity with and knowledge of the Seldinger technique
• Satisfactory completion of preceptorship training with qualified

expert.
• Knowledge of issues related to risk management, continuous improvement, outcome monitoring
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
• Demonstrated teaching/education/in-service skills
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
across the Health System
• Must possess the skill, knowledge, and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
• Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
• Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
• Current BLS certification
